Millville Woman’s Club Wraps Up Year with Community Service Projects
The Millville Woman’s Club held its annual Tree of Remembrance ceremony in their clubhouse last month. The special ceremony was a time for club members and others from the community to honor or give special recognition to family members or friends. It was a fundraiser and with each name submitted $10 was donated to the MWC scholarship fund. MWC Financial Secretary and Project Director Barbara Westog (pictured right) read each name aloud and Debbi Permito, MWC chorus director (pictured left), rang a bell after each one. There were musical performances by the Lakeside Middle School Chorus and the MWC Chorus.

Also as the holidays were approaching, MWC showed its support for the Family Success Center of Millville as club members brought in gift bags for young children filled with clothing, games, art supplies, puzzles, stuffed animals and more. Each bag was labled as to age and gender. Diane Alcantara and Nancy Hammond delivered 27 gift bags to the Center. Alcantara, MWC Chorus member, initiated this project with the MWC Chorus during COVID 19. Since then, other club members have added their donations and it has become an annual project with Diane at the helm.
The Center’s mantra is “Strong Families = Strong Communities!” Ivelise Perez, Site Director of the Family Success Center, and Raquel Matias, volunteer coordinator, expressed their gratitude for the gift bags and for MWC spreading the holiday cheer.

Continuing in the holiday spirit, members of the MWC provided Sweets for Seniors as club members prepared 287 bags with individually packaged candies and tins of cookies for distribution to residents of Millville Senior Housing. Mary Miskelly, MWC Civic Engagement & Outreach Chair, coordinated this project. Chris McMahon and Zack Cowan of the Millville Housing Authority arrived with trucks to receive the bags of treats.
