Local Animal Shelter Joins AHS
South Jersey Regional Animal Shelter (SJRAS) has officially joined forces with Associated Humane Societies (AHS), New Jersey’s largest animal welfare organization and will transition to Associated Humane Societies South.
“This partnership marks the beginning of a new and exciting chapter for this community and the animals we serve,” said Jessica Morrison-Weiss, executive director of SJRAS, in a media release. “By joining forces with AHS, we’re able to combine years of knowledge and resources, share best practices, and expand our impact while staying rooted in our mission to serve the people and pets of South Jersey.”
Over the years, SJRAS has had the support of its adopters, volunteers, donors and followers in never losing sight of the mission, even in trying times. Management said it couldn’t be prouder of the progress the small but mighty shelter has made over the years.
“Now, as Associated Humane Societies South, we will continue to provide critical services to the community including pet adoptions, progressive sheltering programs, humane education, spay/neuter assistance, and community outreach,” said Morrison-Weiss. “This merger brings a renewed energy and expanded support to the shelter’s life-saving work while aligning with a broader vision of improving animal welfare practices in New Jersey.”
AHS rescues stray and homeless animals, both domestic and wildlife, providing quality care and sanctuary until loving homes can be found. As a community-based organization, we provide low-cost veterinary care and humane education to promote responsible pet guardianship throughout New Jersey.
Founded in 1906, The Associated Humane Societies is the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey. It operates three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls. The Forked River facility includes Popcorn Park. Established in 1977, Popcorn Park is a sanctuary for abandoned, injured, ill, exploited, abused, or elderly farm animals, birds, and wildlife (domestic and exotic).
The Society is a not for profit, 501 (c)3 organization.
