YMCA Announces Reopening of Pool

Last week, the Cumberland Cape Atlantic YMCA reopened its large indoor swimming pool. The pool was closed in March due to mandates related to the COVID19 pandemic. The reopening is under the guidance of state and local health authorities.

Jennifer Helm, senior program director, said, “We have all waited months for this time of reopening to come. We are so happy to be able to announce the pool’s reopening.

“There are numerous changes that have been implemented as the Y is doing our part for everyone’s safe use of the pool and locker rooms. We must follow the standards and guidelines from the State of New Jersey Department of Health Indoor Pool Standards, as well as the CDC, and YUSA, plus insurance and lifeguard certifying agencies,” she added. For example, high-touch areas are cleaned every two hours.

The new regulations range from use of face coverings (except for shower and swimming times) to using pool lanes exclusively by advance reservation. Times range from 7:30 a.m. to 6:45 p.m., generally for 60-minute blocks for specific lanes. One 30-minute slot has been added. Pool use is primarily for people aged 16 and older, but two time slots are available for 14- and 15-year-olds.
