Vineland High School alumnus and football star, linebacker Tyreem Powell, was chosen to represent Rutgers University football at the Big Ten media days presented by Old National Bank at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis at the end of July.
Running back Kyle Monangai and linebacker Mohamed Toure are the school’s other representatives. It is the first appearance for each player.
Conference media days mark the start of a new season and the close to a long offseason. This year’s event is expanded to three days where football stars from throughout the Big Ten interact with the media.
Rutgers head coach Greg Schiano will join the players to answer questions about the team during the multi-day event spanning from July 23 through the 25th. It will have a different feel to it due to the additions of four more schools to the conference. This will be the first time with the Oregon Ducks, Washington Huskies, USC Trojans and UCLA Bruins in attendance.
Big Ten Network will broadcast six consecutive hours of live coverage every day, beginning at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT/8 a.m. PT.
Rick Pizzo and Jake Butt will host morning coverage of the day’s press conferences, while Dave Revsine, Gerry DiNardo and Howard Griffith will interview all 72 attendees on the BTN set during afternoons.
Powell has played in 33 games the last three seasons, totaling 144 tackles with eight for loss and five sacks, adding eight passes defended (seven breakups, one interception) and a forced fumble. He led Rutgers with 53 tackles last year before missing the final five games due to injury.
He is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.
