We’re exposed to so much gloom and doom these days that good news seems to be in short supply. This is especially true of business start-ups. We’re so focused on helping businesses stay open and hold their own that celebrating new businesses seems somewhat ironic in these challenging times.
But, lo and behold, we’re celebrating the opening of several new businesses this week with another string of ribbon-cuttings. These will take place on Wednesday, March 17, starting at 9:30 a.m. So, before we all go out and recall the Sons of the Blarney Stone on Saint Patrick’s Day, we can help these new businesses get off to a grand start. If you’re reading this column in time, come down, by all means, and help us with the celebrations. If you’re reading this after the fact, still go over the businesses, welcome them to The Ave, and patronize them.
We’ll be at Touched By Jewel (605 E. Landis Avenue) at 9:30, La Chi Massage (651 E. Landis Avenue—facing Seventh Street), at 9:45, Namaste Collective (710 E. Landis Avenue) at 10 a.m., various new businesses in The Spot (618 E. Landis Avenue) at 10:15, Horizon America Staffing Services (606 E. Landis Avenue) at 10:30, Sher’s Hair Empire (319 W. Landis Avenue) at 10:45, and Cumberland Air Solutions (45 W. Landis Avenue) at 11 a.m.
These start-ups are more proof of the resiliency of our business climate on The Ave. We’re working hard to help keep businesses open with promotions, grants, financial help, trainings, and workshops. Yet new businesses are coming to The Ave and contributing to make our downtown special. It’s something about which I’m so proud.

This is a reminder that we’ve also brought back “Take Out Thursday” to help our restaurants on The Ave. This week, on March 18, check out Indian Villa Curry-n-Cakes, at 601 E. Landis Avenue. For details and subsequent weeks, go to our Facebook page for the restaurants’ menus, hours, and telephone numbers.

Just a reminder that we have a COVID vaccination clinic right on The Ave, which will also provide COVID testing. It’s operating through the Vineland Health Department and is located in the former Landis MarketPlace building, at 631 E. Landis Ave. It’s handy, well-organized and there for you. You can get more information by contacting the Health Department at 856-794-4131.
