Main Street Millville Gets Transformation Grant

Millville Development Corporation recently received a Transformation Grant from the Main Street New Jersey (MSNJ) Program and will use the $15,000 grant award to replace and renovate the fountain on the Glasstown Plaza at High and Sassafras Streets. New mini murals will be created on a variety of buildings in the Glasstown Arts District.

The fountain on the plaza no longer works and will be removed and replaced with a human-size checkerboard. This will allow for more performance space for events and encourage families to use it for fun activities.
Adding new public art on a yearly basis is always the goal of the Main Street organization. Area artists will soon have the opportunity to answer Requests for Proposals for the murals.

“The Department of Public Affairs recognizes Millville Development Corporation for its commitment and dedication to fostering economic development in the Glasstown Arts District,” said Ashleigh Udalovas, Commissioner and Director of Public Affairs for the City of Millville.

“Executive Director Marianne Lods and the Board of Millville Development Corporation respond enthusiastically to each opportunity that advances the City’s Arts District, and the award of the Main Street New Jersey Grant is an example of their dedication to promoting innovative projects that demonstrate artistic talent and provide an outlet for residents and visitors to enjoy while visiting High Street.”

This year, designated communities were also eligible for the MSNJ Transformation Grants, which are funding awards of $25,000 or less aimed at assisting projects such as storefront improvement, placemaking, and transformation strategies development that can be completed in six months or less.

Millville has been a main street community since 2004 and has found great value in the resources offered throughout the last two decades.
