Cumberland County Noted for Global Food Manufacturing
Media company Capital Analytics Associates recently reported that Vineland and Cumberland County have emerged as a center of global food manufacturing. The region is a U.S. hub for European food manufacturers, driven by strategic logistics, cold storage infrastructure, and agricultural roots.
In the last three years, major investments include Italian firms Rovagnati and Levoni, along with Maestri D’Italia, establishing their first American production facilities to meet growing demand for premium, domestic-produced imports. Rovagnati opened a 64,000-square-foot plant in Vineland in 2021, while. Levoni launched its first U.S. production site in Millville in 2024. Maestri D’Italia opened a 70,000-square-foot facility in Vineland last year.
The county has solid infrastructure and business advantages. It boasts over 30 million cubic feet of cold storage capacity and easy access to major ports.
The Cumberland County Improvement Authority (“The Authority”), with initiatives like the Food Specialization Center acts as a “magnet” for food innovators, providing necessary support for international companies looking to establish a presence here.
Beyond European investments, Canadian manufacturer Lassonde Industries is constructing a $200 million beverage facility in the county, signaling continued long-term growth in the region.
The surge in specialized manufacturing, particularly in cured meats and premium foods, solidifies the region’s reputation as a key manufacturing hub, supported by close ties with organizations like Choose New Jersey.
