Aaron Glenn Calls for Discipline After Jets’ Flag-Filled Win Over Packers
On Saturday night, August 9, 2025, at Lambeau Field in Green Bay, the New York Jets opened their preseason with a 30-10 win over the Green Bay Packers, but first-year head coach Aaron Glenn said the number of penalties remained a major concern. The Jets were called for 12 penalties, with 10 accepted or not offsetting, totaling 91 yards, and Glenn described some of these as undisciplined, stressing, “We’ve got to clean those up.”
Among the infractions, three were personal fouls for unnecessary roughness. One involved defensive end Micheal Clemons, who also dealt with penalties in the previous season. He was penalized after engaging in a fight with Green Bay right tackle Zach Tom, an exchange that resulted in offsetting penalties. Clemons was taken out of the game immediately, and Glenn had a direct discussion with him on the sideline, later explaining, “I have to address that.”
In the first half, the Jets committed two late-hit fouls on the sideline in consecutive plays, called on defensive end Eric Watts and linebacker Marcelino McCrary-Ball. Glenn also spoke to McCrary-Ball upon his return to the bench. In the fourth quarter, a 73-yard touchdown run by Donovan Edwards was nullified due to a holding call against offensive lineman Liam Fornadel.
In the betting market after the game, major sportsbooks continued to list the Jets with long futures odds. BetMGM and Caesars have the team at +20,000 to win the Super Bowl, DraftKings lists +25,000, and FanDuel lists +23,000. AFC Championship odds are +10,000 at BetMGM and DraftKings, +7,500 at Caesars, and +11,000 at FanDuel, while AFC East odds are +1,800 at BetMGM, DraftKings, and Caesars, and +1,700 at FanDuel. Win totals sit at 6.5 at BetMGM, DraftKings, and FanDuel, and 5.5 at Caesars, with playoff odds at +475 to make the postseason at BetMGM and DraftKings, +425 at Caesars, and +520 at FanDuel. For their next preseason game against the New York Giants on August 16, the Jets are listed as approximately +3 on the spread, with a total points line between 38.5 and 39.5, depending on the sportsbook.
The night also brought several injuries. Wide receiver Allen Lazard was seen leaving the locker room with his right arm in a sling, and Glenn confirmed a shoulder injury for Lazard, who would undergo further evaluation. Running back Isaiah Davis exited due to an ankle injury, and Glenn said he believed Davis was “fine.” Running back Kene Nwangwu sustained a calf injury described by Glenn as not serious. Safety Tony Adams had a thigh injury, but Glenn expressed no concern.
Defensive tackle Jay Tufele, seeing extended playing time with Quinnen Williams (calf) and Byron Cowart (ankle) unavailable, recorded 1.5 sacks and recovered a fumble for a touchdown. After scoring, Tufele attempted to hand the ball to Glenn, but the coach told him to keep it.
Several players did not travel to Green Bay due to injuries: quarterback Tyrod Taylor (knee), wide receiver Xavier Gipson (shoulder), cornerbacks Kris Boyd (shoulder) and Azareye’h Thomas (shoulder), guard John Simpson (back), tight end Mason Taylor (ankle), and defensive tackles Byron Cowart (ankle) and Quinnen Williams (calf). Cornerback Jarrick Bernard-Converse missed the trip because of a medical matter not related to an injury, and Glenn said he is expected to return soon.
Glenn said reducing penalties will remain a focus as the preseason continues.
