Get in the Spirit

by Marianne Lods, Executive Director, Millville Development Corporation

The Glasstown Arts District has partnered with the City Recreation Volunteer Committee to bring Christmas cheer to the town and area on Friday, December 13, from 6 to 9 p.m.

Start your evening early with “Carol-oke” from 4 ’til 7 p.m. at Bogart’s Books & Cafe, 103 N. High Street. The popular bookstore will be serving up plenty of hot beverages and sugary treats the whole family will enjoy. If you drop in later, enjoy the live music of “Sitar” Bob.

Next door is our holiday pop-up shop, Artistic Movement Emporium, filled with artisan work including pottery, jewelry, wood-burned placques, candles, handmade cards, and much more!

Carolers will be strolling High Street. Enjoy the familiar tunes as you shop for special holiday gifts at the galleries and shops. Join in with the carolers if you like.

At the Village on High, you’ll find Santa and Mrs. Claus ready to take selfies and portraits. Santa will take your “wishes,” too. A fire pit complete with marshmallows and chestnuts for roasting await you along with the unique cottages filled with original items to brighten your holidays. LaBottega of Art is just across the street offering original art and art objects at prices to suit all Christmas budgets.

Along the way you’ll find the Arts & Innovation Center (Rowan College of South Jersey) with a gallery and gift shop filled with artists’ work that’s perfect for the season. Ceramic art is perfect for the men and women on your gift list.

The Millville Shade Tree Commission will be on the Glasstown Plaza giving out beautiful holly bouquets, free! The holly represents the history of our town known worldwide as “the Holly City of America.” For decades, wide varieties of holly were grown in Millville. Take some home and enjoy the spirit of the holidays.

Make sure to visit the Riverfront Renaissance Center for the Arts. The main gallery is a large holiday shop until the new year. The artisan work of dozens of artists is on sale and you’ll be able to buy for women, men and children.

The Center will have live music by the Andy Dimacle Duo and a sing-along later in the evening. There will be an ornament and card-making area for families to have fun. Register for the “Ugly Sweater Contest” that will be judged after 8 p.m. Light refreshments will be available.

The Levoy Theatre will present “Ted Vigil – A Rocky Mountain Christmas,” a tribute to John Denver at 8 p.m. Tickets are available online and at the Levoy. Stop by the box office and buy gift certificates for the very special people on your shopping list.

If you’re ready for a snack or dinner while you’re here, our restaurants offer a wide variety of cuisine. Italian, Mexican, international, a slice or a sandwich are sure to please you. Gift certificates are available at all locations.
