Flowers on The Ave

by Russell Swanson, Exec. Dir., VDID, Main Street Vineland

Last week, I wrote about volunteers and extolled the virtues of the many ways that volunteerism can help make The Ave a great place. Beautification of our downtown is one of the most self-satisfying ways to accomplish this.

To that end, we’re seeking adult volunteers for Spring Planting Day, taking place this year on Saturday, May 8, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., rain or shine, at the mini-parks at Landis Avenue and the Boulevard.

While you’re thinking of flowers for Mother’s Day, set aside a few hours that day and help us add flowers to areas of our downtown that are focal points. This year, we’re looking for some ambitious adults to come and help out.

Over the years we’ve made these occasions community efforts, involving volunteers from various groups—and just people who came out to help, get some exercise, and enjoy the idea of making our downtown look pretty.

We’ll be focusing on the mini-parks, including the flower beds at the four corners and in the parks themselves, and the flowers at the water fountains. The mini-parks, especially, have been focal points for people passing through our downtown on The Ave and that’s a point of pride for us, as it should be for you.

We’ll have gardener’s gloves and tools for you or you can bring your own. Just come with your green thumb and a whole heap of enthusiasm for making this weekend extra special—not only for Mom, but also for The Ave. To help, just give the Main Street Vineland office a call at 856-794-8653 or e-mail us at [email protected] and we’ll fit you in.
