Fatal Hit-and-Run Crime in Egg Harbor Township Leaves Pedestrian Dead, Driver Flees

A hit-and-run accident in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, on Tuesday night led to the death of 40-year-old Alisha Cottman.

The crash happened around 8 p.m. on February 18, 2025, along the Black Horse Pike near Bayport Drive in the West Atlantic City area.

According to police, 32-year-old Gino Garofolo, from Ventnor, was driving a 2018 Jeep Wrangler when he struck Cottman, who was crossing the road.

After hitting her, Garofolo fled the scene, leaving Cottman lying in the roadway.

Emergency responders quickly arrived, but despite their efforts, Cottman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police closed the westbound lanes of the Black Horse Pike for about five hours to investigate, which caused major traffic delays in the area.

Thankfully, with the help of Philadelphia police, they were able to locate his vehicle.

However, Garofolo has not yet been arrested, and the investigation is still ongoing.

At this point, charges are pending as investigators continue to gather more details.
