Congress Honors Plevins with Proclamation
Stephen Plevins has been honored with a Proclamation from the U.S. House of Representatives and Congressman Jeff Van Drew. He is honored for his contributions to Vineland and Cumberland County and being named 2024 Boxing Man of the Year from the New Jersey Boxing Hall of Fame.
Plevins was honored as a Cumberland County Legend for the Complete Care Organization for his accomplishments in Cumberland County. He was also honored with a Martin Luther King Award by the African-American Community Development Corporation (VAACDC). This award recognizes Plevin’s contributions to the community and his tireless work with children of all backgrounds.
Plevins’s boxing award came because he made history by integrating and rehabilitating troubled youth securing state approval to take his students to professional boxing workouts. He also had special relationships with many great boxers including Sugar Ray Leonard and Dwight Braxton of Camden.
Plevins was also honored by the New York Marquis recognizing him in “Who’s Who” for his work with young people and community outreach. The Spanish Pastors of South Jersey honored him for his work in the Hispanic community. This organization consists of 22 churches in the Vineland and South Jersey area. Plevins helped with the International Festival put on by the Spanish Assembly of God Church along with other happenings in the Hispanic community.
Plevins was honored by the Friends of the Israeli Defense Forces at the yearly gathering at the Hilton on City Line Avenue with 500 in attendance. Actual members of the defense forces were present along with a released hostage of the October 7 Hamas attack.
Plevins is active in and chairman of the Vineland Turkey Drive, which he has led for 13 years. His committee partners with Spirit and Truth Ministries to feed 5,000 people in the City of Vineland.
