Inspira Health Awarded for Equitable Care
Inspira Medical Center Vineland was ranked the number nine best acute care hospital in the U.S. out of 2,700 in a study of performance across measures of equity, value, and outcomes, according to the 2025 Lown Institute Hospitals Index. Inspira was the highest-ranked hospital in New Jersey.
More than 125 U.S. hospitals achieving top “Honor Roll” ratings. Despite workforce shortages, rising costs, looming Medicaid cuts, and other challenges, Lown Institute analysts say this year’s Honor Roll demonstrates it is possible for hospitals to deliver high-value, equitable care.
Duke Regional Hospital in Durham, NC took top honors for the third year in a row.
“These hospitals show that no matter how tough the environment gets, putting patients and communities first is always possible,” said Vikas Saini, MD, president of the Lown Institute. “Those returning to the list prove that equitable, high-value care doesn’t have to be rare, it’s a standard hospitals can uphold year after year.”
Socially responsible hospitals exist in many regions and settings. The Honor Roll includes major academic medical centers like MedStar Washington Hospital Center in Washington, DC and Emory University Hospital in Atlanta; rural community hospitals like Stillwater Medical Center in Stillwater, OK; and safety-net institutions like Temple University Hospital in Philadelphia. Pennsylvania had more hospitals (12) on the Honor Roll than any other state.
In addition to the acute care hospitals, 800 critical access hospitals, and 300 hospital systems nationwide were examined. The Index evaluates hospitals on over 50 metrics across categories of health equity, value, and outcomes. The Lown Institute Hospitals Index is the first to measure social responsibility. Among the acute care honor roll hospitals with available data, most paid their CEO below the average amount compared to hospitals of a similar size.
