Vineland’s Powell is Contender in 2025 NFL Draft

Former Vineland High Class of 2020 multi-position football star Tyreem Powell is a strong early contender in the 2025 NFL draft. Like Vineland native Isaiah Pacheco of the Kansas City Chiefs before him, Powell is excelling on the football field for the Rutgers University Scarlet Knights, as an outside linebacker.

He recently earned preseason recognition from Lindy’s Sports College Football Magazine. The publication picked him as Third Team All-Big Ten.

Powell, entering his senior year, has played in 33 games for Rutgers the last three seasons, totaling 144 tackles with eight for loss and five sacks, adding eight passes defended (seven breakups, one interception) and a forced fumble. The linebacker led Rutgers with 53 tackles last year before missing the final five games due to injury. He posted a career-high 11 stops in the win over Virginia Tech, contributing sacks versus Northwestern and at Michigan. Powell is a two-time Academic All-Big Ten honoree.

At VHS, he was a multi-position player. As quarterback at VHS, he passed for 868 yards and eight touchdowns while rushing for 454 yards and five touchdowns. Powell contributed 60 tackles and two interceptions on defense. He earned All-South Jersey honors from the Philadelphia Inquirer twice and was selected to the 2019 Jersey Sports Zone All-Zone Team as a linebacker. Powell was a First Team All-South Jersey selection for the Brooks-Irvine Memorial Football Club. The Press of Atlantic City granted him First Team All-Star honors on defense.
