The City of Vineland recently announced it is working with the New Jersey Conservation Foundation to add an additional 90 acres to the Menantico Creek Nature Preserve, located off Hance Bridge, Mays Landing and Panther roads in East Vineland.
The Environmental Commission has also been busy with a number of other projects, including the distribution of free tree seedlings to more than 500 residents; this is part of the New Jersey tree recovery program. The commission will soon be placing new bluebird nesting boxes in nature areas around the city. They were built and donated by students from Cumberland County Technical Education Center construction trades.
Environmental programs continue to be a key priority of the city, which is maintaining its Sustainable Jersey certification and conducting a well-attended environmental fair annually. If you have a group that would like to participate in or propose a project, contact Diane Amico, environmental commission chairperson, at 856-794-4000, ext. 4234.
