Vineland Historical Society Receives Grant from Cultural Trust
The Vineland Historical and Antiquarian Society (VHAS) is honored to receive a $9,186 grant from the New Jersey Cultural Trust through the Cultural Trust’s FY26 Institutional and Financial Stabilization grant program. The funding will support technology upgrades to enable the digitization of the VHAS collection.
“VHAS is most grateful to receive this award as it will enable us to reach a broader audience and enhance preservation by reducing the handling of original artifacts. We anticipate the digitization process to provide open access to high-resolution images online, allowing researchers, educators and the public to explore our unique collection remotely,” said Valerie Neuber, board president of the VHAS.
In addition to offering new opportunities for discovery and collaboration, the digitization project has the potential to raise awareness of the depth of the collection as typically only five percent of museum’s stored collections are accessible to the public. Digital collections can also be integrated into educational materials and virtual exhibitions enhancing learning experiences for students and the public.
Digitization of the stored collections is a powerful tool because it truly increases the accessibility of the collection without any boundaries—geographical, opening hours, items sensitivity, or audience. Not only does it ensure the integrity of the artifacts will be preserved, but it also allows access for a wide audience to enjoy the collection.
The Vineland Historical and Antiquarian Society, located at 108 S. 7th Street, is an independent, non-profit museum. Its mission is “to preserve and promote Vineland’s rich history, educate and inspire current and future generations, and foster a sense of pride and appreciation for Vineland’s unique heritage.”
