Summer Fun Returns

by Russell Swanson, Exec. Dir., VDID, Main Street Vineland

Memorial Day is behind us and that that means that the summer season of fun and festivities is officially on. We’ve got a lineup of events here that’ll make summer fun on The Ave as easy as 1-2-3.

More details will be coming out as the events get closer, but this should be enough to whet your appetite, especially as the relaxation of COVID restrictions are making people yearn for the good times.

First up is our Third Annual Running The Ave 5K on June 27. Held in cooperation with Second Capital Running and with major sponsorship by Lidl, it will be held rain or shine, starting at 9 a.m., right on downtown Landis Avenue. Cumberland County’s premier road race will traverse 3.1 miles of Vineland’s wide streets and green parks. The race starts on The Ave. Special awards will go to the fastest runner from Vineland and a True Grit Award for the last-place finisher. Team challenges will take place for the fastest family and fastest business. Social distancing measures will be in place. Over the past two years we’ve had runners from throughout the Delaware Valley participate. Be one of them by going to Main Street Vineland’s website—theave.biz—and sign up.

To cool you off in the middle summer, we’re debuting Christmas in July on The Ave, scheduled for Saturday, July 24, rain or shine, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Why celebrate Christmas in July? Well, this is just the prelude to a weekend-long event—An Olde Fashioned Christmas on The Ave, to take place downtown later this year, December 3 through 5. The holiday music, food, and other Yuletide festivities in July will kick off the buildup to the December event. You won’t want to miss it, so plan for some preliminary Christmas cheer while enjoying your summer fun.

The summer schedule wraps up with our third Food Truck Festival on The Ave, scheduled for Sunday, August 22, rain or shine, from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., at Landis Avenue and the Boulevard. Members 1st of NJ Federal Credit Union will be the major sponsor and Newfield National Bank will be the Entertainment Sponsor. We’ll have plenty food trucks and wall-to-wall fun in store for young and old. The schedule of events is being planned right now, so watch for more details. You’ll certainly want to be there. So, come hungry and stay late!

Whatever COVID guidelines in effect at the time of each event will be enforced. Sponsorship opportunities are available for all of these events, and watch for additional events that may come up.
