SMART Girls Wear Pearls

The Club held a “S.M.A.R.T. Girls Wear Pearls” event recognizing the young ladies that have participated in the program. S.M.A.R.T. Girls is a small-group health, fitness, prevention/education and self-esteem enhancement program designed to meet the developmental needs of girls in three age groups, spanning ages eight to 18.

Through dynamic sessions, participatory activities, field trips and mentoring opportunities with adult women, Club girls explore their own and societal attitudes and values as they build skills for eating right, staying physically fit, getting good health care and developing positive relationships with peers and adults.

Ms. Kim Rivera, assistant principal of Vineland High School South, and Ms. Karen Barnett of the Youth-To-Youth Program, were the guest speakers at the event and they discussed their journeys as young women and the fact that there are all different shapes and sizes of pearls just as there are people.

Coordinated by staffer Lavena Scafe, parents and caregivers also attended the event and enjoyed food and comraderie.
