Record Attendance at Final 2019 Household Hazardous Waste/Document Shred

Cumberland County residents came out in record numbers to participate in the final Household Hazardous Waste and Document Shredding Day of 2019 hosted by the Cumberland County Improvement Authority (CCIA) on September 21.

The CCIA staff registered 749 vehicles during this one-day event representing a 21 percent increase when compared to the 2018 September event.

“Our community cares about properly disposing of hazardous waste materials. It is apparent with the number of people that came out to our final event of 2019,” says Loretta Pregartner, Cumberland County recycling coordinator.

Proper hazardous waste disposal is key to preserving groundwater and the environment. It also ensures safe trash transportation and collection throughout the county. Cumberland County collections at the three events hosted in 2019 totalled 31.24 tons of hazardous waste, 21.90 tons of shredded paper, and 3,093 gallons of waste oil.
