RCSJ Invites Community Members to Attend Military Outreach Event

On Saturday, April 6, Rowan College of South Jersey (RCSJ) will host its annual Military Outreach event for veterans, service members, and military families to connect to one another and learn more about the college, local, and state resources available to them.

This family-friendly event will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Gloucester campus Math & Engineering Center and members of the community are encouraged to attend. There will be plenty of free entertainment to keep little ones engaged, including a bounce house, corn hole games, coloring books, and the opportunity to make their artistic mark on RCSJ’s campus with sidewalk chalk.

Adults can take the opportunity to learn about state and federal benefits and assistance with healthcare, housing, education, employment, and more. Speak with the Gloucester County Veterans Association to locate resources close to home or discover Project Refit and the peer support it provides for veterans and first responders. Take the next step in your civilian career and talk to an RCSJ recruiter and staff from the College’s Office of Military Affairs, then find even more support through Bridging the Gap, which helps prepare veterans and their families for career success after honorable service.

Lethal Means Safety & Suicide Prevention and SSG Fox Suicide Prevention will be present to share information that saves lives and a representative from Virtua Health College of Medicine & Life Sciences of Rowan University will help attendees connect to physical and mental health resources.

The whole family will love meeting the Crisis Response Canines team and learning how they embody their motto of providing “Strength Through Comfort.” The Army National Guard will also be rolling onto campus with a MAT V (Mine-Resistant Ambush Protected Vehicle), a HMMWV (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle), and the Buzz Truck—a mobile barbershop providing free haircuts on the go.

Water, soft pretzels, and water ice will be provided for attendees at no cost. Mission BBQ will also be pulling up in their BAM BAM smoker truck and handing out coupons to veterans and military members for some free grub.

“It’s an honor to assist New Jersey veterans by connecting them to the many resources available in Gloucester County, along with services and support provided through the College,” said John Ryder, RCSJ’s director of Student and Veteran Affairs. “We’re looking forward to a fun and informative event that has something to offer the whole family and we’re hoping to see a lot of new faces there.”
