NJ State Politicians Launch New South Jersey Podcast for Local News Updates

A new South Jersey podcast, “State House Minute,” has been launched by New Jersey’s Third Legislative District to keep residents informed about local and state government issues.
State Senator John Burzichelli, Assemblywoman Heather Simmons, and Assemblyman Dave Bailey Jr. introduced the podcast at the end of January 2025.
The first episode aired on February 4, 2025, and its goal was to provide direct, fact-based updates on issues affecting South Jersey communities.
Local news has decreased in recent years, which makes it harder for people to keep up with what’s happening in state government.
To address this, Burzichelli, Simmons, and Bailey created this podcast as a short, easy-to-access source of information.
In contrast to traditional media, which often requires reading long articles or watching extended news reports, “State House Minute” presents quick, three- to five-minute episodes – a format that helps listeners stay updated without taking up too much time.
The lawmakers believe that many South Jersey residents do not have time to sit through lengthy legislative hearings or read detailed government documents.
By keeping episodes short and focused, the podcast provides information efficiently. The hosts have also stated that they may release longer episodes if a topic requires more discussion.
Rowan Radio has partnered with the legislators, hosting Simmons and Bailey to record the first episodes. Rowan Radio provides a professional studio and handles production, helping deliver a polished final product.
Since launching, three episodes have been released. Topics covered so far include New Jersey’s energy landscape, rising electric bills, and the New Jersey Menopause Coverage Act.
Future episodes will address higher education, small business support, job creation, infrastructure improvements, property tax relief, and issues affecting seniors and veterans.
The legislators plan to feature guest speakers, including local leaders, business owners, educators, and policy experts, to offer more perspectives on these topics.
The first episodes of “State House Minute” are now available on Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, Spotify, and Apple Podcasts.
