The U14 Millville Maniacs competed in the Pittsgrove Labor Day Tournament on Labor Day weekend and were awarded Champions of their age bracket. The boys won their first game against Hammonton Heat 2-1, with goals by Gavin Miller (2) and assists by Aidan Whilden and John Abdill. Superb defense by Merik Sykut, Christian Mercardo, Travis Jenkins, Aidan Whilden, Luke Patterson and keeper Matthew Sooy sealed the victory.
Game 2 brought a great back-and-forth affair. Down 1-0 at the half to the West Deptford Process, the Maniacs came out blazing with goals by Terron Stevenson, who also had an assist and Jesiah Cruz (2), also adding an assist, to lead the team to a 3-2 victory.
The final game of the day was a grueling loss 1-0 to the U15 Mainland United Dragons, when both teams were feeling the affects of the heat. The Maniacs battled through and had multiple chances to score, but just missed. Great all around play by Braydon Courtney, Matthew Miller, Chase Cross who hit the crossbar three different times, Nelson Bryant, Lukas Harrington, Joshua Johnson Jr., and Gavin Hawes helped the team win the Championship.
The team then geared up for league play set to start the following Sunday against the Deptford Raptors. Stay tuned…
