Malik Nabers’ Deleted Post Explodes After Giants’ OT Collapse in Detroit
The New York Giants’ 34-27 overtime loss to the Detroit Lions at Ford Field added another setback to a season already defined by injuries, coaching changes, and repeated late-game collapses. Injured wide receiver Malik Nabers, recovering from a torn right ACL suffered on September 28 and surgery a month later, watched the game from home.
As the Giants fell to 2–10 and remained at the bottom of the NFC East, he posted a pointed message on X criticizing the team’s late-game strategy. He wrote, “Sometimes I think they b makin us lose on purpose! Cause it’s no way, bro you throw the ball instead of runnin it to make em burn 2 timeouts?? then you dnt kick the field goal.??? Then they have to go down and score!!! Football common sense!!!! Am I missing something?” The post was deleted shortly after, but screenshots spread quickly.

Nabers’ frustration came from a sequence late in regulation. The Giants led 27–24 and had the ball at the Lions’ 4-yard line with about three minutes left. Detroit used a timeout after a successful run. Interim head coach Mike Kafka then called a pass on second down. A third-down run lost four yards and forced Detroit to use another timeout. On fourth-and-goal from the six-yard line, Kafka called another pass instead of kicking a short field goal. The Giants turned the ball over, the Lions tied the game with a long field goal, and Detroit won in overtime on a 69-yard touchdown run. The loss extended New York’s road losing streak to 12 games, the longest in franchise history. The team has also held double-digit road leads multiple times this season and lost each one.
As Nabers’ comments circulated, sportsbooks continued updating their assessment of the Giants. FanDuel and DraftKings listed New York as a +7.5 underdog for Week 13’s Monday Night Football matchup, with moneyline prices between +320 and +340. The Patriots, entering at 11–2 on a nine-game winning streak, were listed in the -410 to -425 range. Totals across major operators remained near 46.5 points. Preseason futures, which had the Giants around +20,000 to win the Super Bowl, were removed from boards after the team’s elimination. Nabers, once regularly included in receiving-yard and touchdown props, is no longer listed due to injury. Wan’Dale Robinson has taken over the primary role in prop markets after his recent production.
Kafka addressed his decisions after the game. He said the staff intended to be aggressive, aimed to score when possible, and weighed field-goal situations as they arose. He added that he had confidence in defensive coordinator Shane Bowen and the full defensive staff.
The loss also brought attention to the expanded role of 24-year-old Wan’Dale Robinson. With Nabers out for the 2025 season, Robinson has appeared in all 12 games and has become a regular target for quarterbacks Jaxson Dart, Russell Wilson, and Jameis Winston. Against Detroit, he finished with nine catches for 156 yards and a touchdown. In Week 2 against the Dallas Cowboys, he posted eight receptions for 142 yards and a touchdown. His season totals include 794 receiving yards, 66 catches, three touchdowns, and 102 targets.
After the game, Robinson said the situation felt difficult to believe. Winston, starting his second consecutive game while Dart remained out after a Week 10 concussion, said he needed to finish drives better and credited the offensive line.
