The Vineland Historical and Antiquarian Society will host its first Community Awareness Day on September 14 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at its museum at 108 S. Seventh Street in Vineland. The free event will include a variety of local agencies and organizations that are active in Vineland and Cumberland County.
“We wanted to offer visitors a chance to learn more about these groups and the work they are doing,” said Sandra Hearing, event coordinator. “They will be able to get their health checked, learn more about services for senior citizens and discover Vineland’s rich history during the day.”
Close to two dozen groups are expected to be on hand for the event. Among those present will be representatives from: Gilda’s Club, the South Jersey Quilters, the Salvation Army, Cohanzick Zoo, the Crisis K-9 Response team, Vineland Public Library, the YMCA and Spirit & Truth Ministries. A local Girl Scout troop will be on hand to sell homemade baked goods, while Cub Scout Pack 36 will sell pretzels and bottled water.
Members of the Rotary Club, Vineland Pre-School, Big Brothers/Big Sisters and the Vineland Health Department will also be on hand that day. The museum will be open free of charge for tours. The Society will have a table on the grounds where visitors will be able to learn more about the non-profit and take home some souvenirs. In addition, children will have the chance to enjoy storytime and receive a copy of their own “Vineland” book.
The event is sponsored in part by the Cumberland County Improvement Authority. For further information, e-mail [email protected] or call 856-691-1111.
