College Bands Perform Spring Concerts

The Rowan College of South Jersey–Cumberland (RCSJ) Campus Jazz Band and Wind Symphony will be sharing musical vibes at community events this month. Two of their performances will take place at the Guaracini Center located on the RCSJ– Cumberland Campus.

The jazz band and wind symphony instrumentalists and vocalists will present their annual Spring Campus Concert on Saturday, May 13, at 2 p.m. The featured repertoire will be celebrating an eclectic mix of American music composers and genres. Jazz selections include “Groovin’ Easy,” “Bandstand Boogie,” “Montego Bay,” and “Mack the Knife.” Wind symphony selections will include tributes to Louis Armstrong (Satchmo), Cole Porter, and Rodgers and Hammerstein.

On Friday, May 19, the RCSJ–Cumberland Campus Bands will host their annual South Jersey Community Band Festival from 6 to 9 p.m.

The evening will consist of a wide array of Community Band ensembles. The Cumberland Campus Wind Symphony will open the event, and the Cumberland Campus Jazz Band will provide musical interludes between the visiting performing groups. Visiting musicians that comprise the Community Band include The Quattro Bassi Tuba Quartet, the Western Atlantic Wind Ensemble, and Barrington Band.

The concerts are free and open to the public. For more about Rowan College of South Jersey–Cumberland Campus Jazz Band and Wind Symphony performances, e-mail Joe Akinskas at [email protected].
