Breece Hall Pursues NFL History with 1,000/1,000 Goal for Jets in 2025

New York Jets running back Breece Hall is heading into the 2025 NFL season with a historic personal goal. Hall, who was drafted in the second round of the 2022 NFL Draft out of Iowa State, recently appeared on the Get Got Pod with Marshawn Lynch and Mike Robinson. During that conversation, he expressed his belief that he has the ability to both rush for over 1,000 yards and receive for more than 1,000 yards in the same season.

If Hall succeeds in reaching those numbers, he would become only the fourth running back in NFL history to accomplish a 1,000-yard rushing and 1,000-yard receiving season. The three players who have achieved this milestone are Roger Craig in 1985, Marshall Faulk in 1999, and Christian McCaffrey in 2019.

Hall is entering his fourth season with the Jets, and he has not yet been part of a winning team since joining the franchise. During his first two seasons, New York experienced multiple quarterback changes. In the 2024 season, however, Aaron Rodgers started and played in all 17 regular-season games. This offseason, Rodgers signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers, and the Jets acquired Justin Fields as their new quarterback. Fields signed a two-year contract with New York and is expected to lead the offense moving forward.

Alongside the quarterback change, the Jets organization also underwent a leadership transition. Former Detroit Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn was named the new head coach, and Darren Mougey was appointed general manager. Even though the changes say otherwise, Hall has pushed back against the perception that the Jets are entering a rebuild. He has said publicly that the team has many good players and is focused on winning now, rather than starting over.

Hall will be working in 2025 under new offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand. He has yet to record a 1,000-yard rushing season in his career but believes he has the ability to become one of the league’s top running backs. He has said his goal is to prove that he’s still “the guy” and one of the best at his position. Hall and the rest of the Jets are scheduled to report to training camp on July 22.

In the sports betting markets, Hall’s name has begun to surface in player props and long-shot futures. According to RotoWire, Hall’s rushing yard prop total is currently set at 925.5 yards across sportsbooks such as DraftKings and FanDuel. His NFL MVP odds stand at +30,000. These figures suggest sportsbooks acknowledge his featured role in the offense but place a low probability on an MVP-level campaign.

On the team side, the Jets’ 2025 win total is listed at 5.5 across several major sportsbooks, including BetMGM. The betting line favors the over, with odds at –150, indicating a stronger lean toward six or more wins. Despite this, sportsbooks generally regard the Jets as long shots in league futures. Their odds of winning the Super Bowl are around +20,000, and their odds of winning the AFC Championship range from +6,500 to +10,000, depending on the sportsbook. According to FanDuel, the Jets’ odds of making the playoffs are about +490, which ranks among the lowest in the league.

Betting analysts have also pointed to the Jets’ 2024 season performance as a factor influencing these lines. The team went 5–12 but had an expected record of 7–10. Notably, they lost all four games decided by three points or fewer and were 2–7 in games decided by seven points or fewer. According to data from BetMGM and the New York Post, teams with that level of close-game misfortune typically improve the following season, gaining an average of 4.1 wins.
