A 20th Century Photographic Walk Down Millville’s High Street: Memories of Businesses Past
If you enjoy reminiscing about your adventures on High Street and the stores you frequented in Millville during the 1900s, stop by the Millville Historical Society’s Headquarters and Genealogical and Research Library at 200 E. Main Street for this month’s exhibit, which is part of Millville’s Third Friday activities on August 15, from 6 to 8 p.m.
The exhibit offers a nostalgic glimpse into Millville’s commercial history through a curated selection of vintage photographs. Longtime residents might recall shopping for clothes at Frank’s Men & Boys or Fath’s, trying on shoes at Freedman’s, eating a hamburger at Joe Torelli’s, and buying sweets at Belzer’s or Abbott’s Bakery. The exhibit’s historic images, drawn from the Wettstein Collection housed at the Millville Historical Society, were assembled by Jo-Ann Wettstein, vice president of the Society’s Board of Trustees.
In addition to the main exhibit, the neighboring 1798 Baracha Dunn House will be open for tours, offering guests a rare opportunity to explore the oldest surviving residence in downtown Millville and to learn more about the various businesses once located there.
Tours are weather permitting.
Light refreshments will be provided. Admission is free and open to the public.
