Millville Student Awarded Congressional Gold Medal

Millville Public Schools proudly announces that Josephine Parlo, an accomplished and community-driven 11th grade Millville High School student, has earned the Gold Medal in the Congressional Award Program, the highest recognition bestowed by the United States Congress for youth who demonstrate exceptional initiative, achievement, and service.
In a special ceremony held at his Northfield, NJ office, Congressman Jeff Van Drew (NJ-2) personally presented Josephine with the Gold Medal, along with a formal Congressional Proclamation and a Challenge Coin, in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments and dedication to her community.
To qualify for the Gold Medal, Josephine completed more than 400 hours of voluntary public service, 200 hours of personal development, 200 hours of physical fitness, and organized and completed a 4-day/4-night expedition—a remarkable demonstration of leadership, resilience, and personal growth.
“Josephine’s achievement is a shining example of what young people can accomplish when they commit themselves to service and self-development,” said Lisa Gaudio, Congressional Advisor for Millville Public Schools. “We are incredibly proud of her accomplishments and grateful to Congressman Van Drew for recognizing her efforts in such a meaningful way.”
Dr. Matt Mazzoni, Superintendent of Millville Public Schools, added, “Josephine’s dedication and perseverance embody the values we strive to instill in all of our students. Her receipt of the Congressional Award Gold Medal is a testament to her character, leadership, and the supportive community around her. We couldn’t be more proud of her.”
The Congressional Award is the only award given by the U.S. Congress to young Americans and represents one of the nation’s highest honors for youth civic achievement.
We commend Josephine Parlo for her extraordinary dedication and congratulate her on this significant milestone.
