ReTURN The Favor Training 2022
March 30 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm
If you are looking for outdoor fun that is also educational, this is the perfect springtime activity for youngsters as well as for the young-at-heart. Horseshoe crabs and shorebirds will benefit from your engagement in this successful wildlife rescue project. Each spring, hundreds of thousands of horseshoe crabs come ashore during spawning season to lay their eggs on the Delaware Bay beaches. While coming ashore many of these harmless animals accidentally become overturned by waves, or become impinged or trapped in manmade and natural hazards.
Horseshoe crabs are very vulnerable when their soft undersides are exposed to the sun and are easy targets for predators. Thousands of horseshoe crabs die each spawning season due to stranding on beaches. In order to participate in the program independently, you will need to attend the upcoming program and receive the permit. CU Maurice River, in partnership with WSHRN, is offering a training session on Saturday, April 9. This session is for new volunteers only. The presentation portion will take place at 11:00 a.m. at Leechester Hall in Leesburg. Returning volunteers will be able to get a 2022 permit by attending an online overview training session on April 20th.
