According to a preliminary estimate by the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, New Jersey’s unemployment rate dropped to 3.3% in July, the lowest since statewide records began in 1976.
New Jersey’s unemployment rate is also currently lower than the national rate of 3.7%.
From July 2018 to July 2019 the state has gained 48,300 jobs, 47,600 in the private sector and 700 in the public sector.
Employment did decrease in five out of nine major private industry sectors including leisure and hospitality, education and health services, information services, financial services, and other services.
