CAMDEN, N.J. – While driving through areas of Camden, keep an eye out for an explosion of yellow this spring when nonprofit Camden Special Services District’s (CSSD) “yellowjacket” ambassador team doubles in size. The ambassadors will provide cleaning and landscape maintenance in additional areas downtown, as well as in several parks, including Wiggins Park on the Camden Waterfront and Gateway Park along Admiral Wilson Boulevard according to Cooper’s Ferry Partnership, a non-profit corporation dedicated to urban redevelopment in the City of Camden.
The CSSD takes pride in ensuring that the areas it services are clean, attractive, and welcoming. To that end, as of April 1st, its weekly coverage has expanding from five to seven days a week.
CSSD services are supported by contributions, fee-for-service contracts, and grants from key stakeholders, local government, non-profits, private businesses, and major institutional anchors located downtown and on the waterfront. CSSD depends on a variety of qualified subcontractors to meet community needs and customer requests.
CSSD’s “Clean and Safe” program is designed to supplement the existing traditional responsibilities of city government, providing enhanced cleaning, beautification, and a uniformed on-the-street resource for visitors and residents requiring assistance. Current services include outdoor pan and broom cleaning, garage and post-concert overnight parking lot cleaning, landscape design, install and maintenance, snow removal, event support, and hospitality assists.
The CSSD has been operating as the Business Improvement District for Camden since 2005. The program creates job opportunities for Camden residents, as the CSSD hires its ambassadors only from the Camden community. This local hiring policy ensures that the CSSD workers care about the impact of their job and are a reliable source of information.
