CARNEYS POINT, N.J. – Salem Community College held their 18th annual Glass Ball Gala on the evening of Friday, April 26th. Through business sponsorships and donations from individuals, the event, which featured a glass art fashion show as well as a silent auction, raised $56,000 for SCC students to receive scholarships.

SCC President Michael Gorman opened the event by introducing Congressman Jeff Van Drew and Assemblyman John Burzichelli. Van Drew kept his remarks brief and presented a proclamation from the United States House of Representatives thanking the college for all that it does for the region.

After the opening remarks, the real show began as more than 20 models took turns walking down the red carpet to show off outfits made of glass. The majority of the outfits were created by Nancy DuBois, renowned glass artist and SCC alumna. Other artists with pieces in the exhibition included Karina Escobar, Charlyn Moellers, Emily Vessy, and Holly Fels. This is the second time the Glass Ball has featured the fashion show helmed by DuBois. She last graced SCC with her glass creations at the 2017 Glass Ball. In 2018, she sent some of her outfits to be worn in the historic Murano Glass Art Society fashion show in Italy.

This year’s event had over 300 attendees – the largest turnout in several years. Over the course of its 18-year history, the Glass Ball Gala has raised over $900,000 for the “School Counts!” scholarship fund.
