The construction of the new bayfront marina in Somers Point is underway and is expected to be completed this summer.
Wickberg Marina Contracting, Inc., recently completed the dredging phase of the project, and Walters Marine Construction has begun building the marina itself.
The marina will feature 20 transient boat slips as well as slips for tour boats and emergency vessels. It will also feature electric, water, and pump out facilities for transient boaters.
“We are constantly working to improve our vibrant waterfront in Somers Point. Last year, we completed the renovations to the successful Gateway Theater; and this year we will open the new Somers Point Marina,” said Greg Sykora, Somers Point Economic Development Advisory Commission (EDAC) Chair.
A $550,000 grant from the National Fish & Wildlife Foundation assisted in funding the dredging, and a $1.45 million National Boating Infrastructure Grant is being used to build the marina.
The city is working on a plan to dredge the entire Bay Avenue waterfront to provide for safe boating access and to allow for additional marinas to operate.
