When local businesses and nonprofit organizations aspire to give back to those in need, the possibilities are endless. And the creation of a new downloadable app is making that idea a reality.
Officials with Beyond, a start-up company, just launched their very own Chip In mobile app for the everyday consumer.
It’s a concept that marries both nonprofit organizations and businesses together while taking on a special mission.
Representatives with Give Something Back in Bridgeton have teamed up with Beyond to increase their efforts of making a difference in the community.
“We’re very excited that Bridgeton is a place where Chip In is taking off, because Give Something Back, which is one of the beneficiaries in this effort, has awarded 50 scholarships to Bridgeton High School students,” said Melissa Helmbrecht, executive director with Give Something Back. “So this is really something that our local community is already seeing the benefits of.”
A percentage of purchases made with local businesses and restaurants that use Beyond for payment processing will go back to a charity of the consumer’s choice.
Kristin Novak-Capo, vice president of sales with Beyond, said her company’s mission is to also keep the best interests of the business owner at heart.
“We have thousands of merchants nationwide,” said Novak-Capo. “We are currently breaking records and we’re processing $280 million a month in payments, which is almost unheard of for a start-up and a young company.”
Officials with Self Love Vegan, a café and restaurant based in Bridgeton, were happy to be the first to take the plunge.
“It’s really cool to be the first merchant. I didn’t realize we were the first merchant when we were signing up,” said Vinnie Straub, co-owner of Self Love Vegan. “So it’s cool to find that out today and to know that we’re processing this and helping to donate and give back to many nonprofits.”
